The Bucovina monasteries remain some of the greatest cultural treasures of Romania and rightfully claim their place among UNESCO world heritage sites. Situated in the lush valleys of Bucovina in Romania, you will be transported back to medieval Europe, during a time of great religious transformation.
The fame of the Bucovina monasteries reaches well beyond the borders of Romania. The churches were all built in the 15th and 16th centuries, during a time of great political and cultural development in Moldavia. The period is related to the 50-year rule of King Stephen the Great.

The Quick / Half a Day Tour (4 to 5 hours)
Suceava - Voronet Monastery - Moldovita Monastery - Sucevita Monastery - Suceava
This tour provides a quick introduction to the monasteries of Bukovina. You will experience the finest frescoes and enigmas (Voronet), a traditional village at the heart of which lies yet another architectural gem (Moldovita) and possibly the most impressive of them all, the fortified Monastery of Sucevita. Take it as a teaser, because you will definitely want to come back for more, and at a more relaxed place.

The Comprehensive / Full Day Tour (8 hours)
Suceava - Gura Humorului - Humor Monastery - Voronet Monastery - Moldovita Monastery - Sucevita Monastery - Marginea Pottery Workshop - Arbore Monastery - Suceava
This tour takes you to the most famous monasteries in Bukovina, providing a good introduction to the area. You will have the chance to see the fine frescoes of Voronet, to enjoy the great natural setting of Sucevita, to experience the local crafts at Marginea black pottery workshop, respectively to stand in wonder in front of the quiet Arbore Monastery.
Optionals: Lunch at a traditional restaurant or guesthouse can be provided in Moldovita or Gura Humorului. Traditional egg painting can be experienced in Vama (allow at least one more hour). Kindly refer to us for a tailor made proposal.

And up the Border / Full Day Tour (8 to 9 hours)
Suceava - Gura Humorului - Voronet Monastery - Moldovita Monastery - Sucevita Monastery - Marginea Pottery Workshop - Cacica Salt Mine and Polish Church - Putna Monastery - Suceava
This tour takes in the main monasteries of the region, with the fine frescoes of Voronet, the fortress-like Sucevita Monastery, or Putna's different style and obvious Gothic influences. But it also adds in the traditions in the area, with the black pottery at Marginea, as well as the multiethnic feature of the region, while taking you to Cacica, a village founded by Polish miners.
Optional: lunch in Sucevita Village, or dinner at the monastery of Putna, with the monks (lent menu).

Fortresses of Faith / Half a Day Tour (5 hours)
Suceava Fortress - Neamt Fortress - Neamt Monastery - Suceava
This tour takes you to the fortresses around which the Moldavian Kingdom developed in the 14th century. After visiting Suceava's Crown Fortress raised by Petru Musat and developed by Stephen the Great, you will have the chance to see the impressive entrance to a medieval fortress at Neamt. Eventually you will go off the main road and visit the Monastery of Neamt, beautifully located in the heart of the secular forest.

Monasteries and Fine Villages / Full Day Tour (8 to 9 hours)
Suceava Fortress - Neamt Fortress - Neamt Monastery - Agapia Monastery - Varatec Monastery - Suceava
This tour takes you to the three pillars of Moldavia: the fortresses around which Moldavia developed, the traditional way of life in distant villages and nevertheless the monasteries that kept the faith alive. Take your time to explore the two fortresses where stood at the heart of the Moldavian Kingdom, then visit the monasteries which gave people the faith to develop a great culture. Furthermore, in villages such as Agapia, let yourself be taken away by the traditional way of life and, should you come in spring time, by those so colourful flowers. The monasteries on this tour, different in style and setting from those in Bukovina proper, have a light of their own. For instance, at 17th century Agapia do not miss Painter Nicolae Grigorescu's frescoes.
Optional: lunch can be served in a traditional guesthouse in Agapia.

A Bit of Everything / Full Day Tour (8 to 9 hours)
Suceava - Sucevita Monastery - Moldovita Monastery - Voronet Monastery - Neamt Fortress - Agapia Monastery - Suceava
This tour mixes the two regions that make this part of the country so great. After walking around Sucevita's fortress-like walls and crossing Ciumarna Pass, you will explore a typical Bukovinean village in Moldovita and reading the Bible on the walls of Voronet Monastery. Later on, changing the scenery, you will visit the impressive ruins of Neamt Fortress, before going once again to the countryside, to the colourful village of Agapia and its monastery.
Optional: lunch can be served at Gura Humorului, in a traditional restaurant. Lunch can also be served in a monastery, only need to book one day in advance.
